Tire reviews & comparisons

Ozmen

Hi Folks. I'm Ozmen, and I work as a tire designer. I understand finding a tire isn't easy, as there are so many variables involved. But with me around, tire selection would never bother you again.

Cooper Discoverer STT Pro

Goodyear Wrangler MT/R vs Cooper STT Pro

Out of both tires, the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro provides superior traction on rocks, and better mud and sand performance as well. Whereas the Wrangler M/TR is better off for dry and wet roads, and it's compound is a better seasonal tire as well, that's why you get extra winter traction with it as well.

Toyo Open Country MT

Pro Comp Xtreme MT2 vs Toyo Open Country MT

Out of both tires, the Pro Comp Xtreme MT2 takes the lead in traction on wet roads with its' flexible tread, which also gets to provide ample snow traction. Moreover, the tire also does great when it comes to fuel efficiency and for tread life, its one of the top performers (in M/T tires). The Toyo M/T on the other side, provides better rock climbing, a more durable structure, and superior mud clearing and hydroplaning resistance.

BF Goodrich KM3 T/A M/T

BF Goodrich KM3 vs Maxxis Razr MT

Maxxis Razr M/T being a heavier and stiffer tire lacks in overall steering response, fuel economy, and wet traction. Though it's better when it comes to rocky terrains, deals better with noise, and gives you a longer tread life. On the other side, the BF Goodrich KM3 provides you with superior wet and snow traction, better overall comfort (bumps absorption), and great mud/dirt evacuation capabilities. It's resemblance to paddle tires also make it one of the best ones out there for sandy terrains.

Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac

Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac vs General Grabber A/TX

Both tires are very different. We have a more aggressive tire at one hand, the Wrangler Duratrac, which is more capable of doing off-road crawling with it's thicker shoulders and prominent tread voids which chew on all kinds of surfaces. And on the other corner, we have General Grabber A/TX which basically provides better traction on smooth surfaces, though it's highlighting feature includes effective resistance to tread wear and snow performance.

Yokohama Geolandar X-AT vs Geolandar AT G015

Yokohama Geolandar X-AT vs Geolandar AT G015

Yokohama Geolandar X-A/T G016 being a rugged terrain tire is a more aggressive option, so its not surprising why it performs better on mud, gravel, rocks, almost all of the tougher terrains. Though you can say, Geolandar A/T is pretty good in sand comparatively. And it's on performance is obviously superior, though it's best known for it's wet traction, as its dry performance is lacking (compared to other all-terrain tires, see all of them here).

BF Goodrich KO2

Firestone Destination X/T vs BF Goodrich KO2

Both tires offer really amazing all-season traction, where both offer equal winter traction, earning 3 peak mountain snowflake rating. Though off road, the BF Goodrich KO2 takes a larger piece of the pie, as it's powerful construction of 3 ply sidewalls can bear more challenging terrains, and its interconnected grooves grip in all directions. The Destination X/T on the other hand, provides better on road grip, where its wet traction is slightly better (though not so great overall, when compared to other A/T tires).

Firestone Destination X/T

Firestone Destination XT vs Cooper Discoverer A/T3 XLT

Both all-terrain tires although offers a great highway experience with their closed up lugs arrangement, the Cooper Discoverer AT3 still takes the lead in both dry and wet conditions. That's because the tire is more streamlined, allowing better rubber to road connection, and have interlocking sipes, which stay flexible during turning on wet pavements. The Firestone Destination on the other side, is only better with snowy roads, though it's fuel economy and comfort is also considerable. And off road, the tire again shows up slightly better, though it lacks in comparison on sandy dunes, with it's sharper sides.

Falken Wildpeak A/T3w

Sumitomo Encounter AT vs Falken Wildpeak AT3w

Both tires look very similar from the shoulder lugs, and that explains why they are both so good in handling on wet and snowy roads. Yet, the Sumitomo Encounter A/T offers superior dry grip, and steering response, along with fuel efficiency and comfort, whereas, the Falken Wildpeak AT3w provides better durability, and off-road traction on mud and rocks.

Cooper Discoverer A/T3 XLT

Sumitomo Encounter A/T vs Cooper Discoverer A/T3

Both tires are very on-road aligned with their 5 rib structure, with a slightly more open design, the Cooper AT3 does better on rugged terrains, where it can evacuate out dirt and mud faster. It's sidewall lugs, moreover, also allows it to have superior lateral traction on rocks. On roads, it does better with noise, and dry grip, but here overall performance is more noticeable on Sumitomo A/T.

Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac

Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus vs Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac

Both tires offer some unique features that allow them to perform differently on various terrains. On roads, the Pirelli does better with grip, steering feedback, noise and fuel economy, whereas Duratrac gives you good enough wet traction and comfort. And off road, it rocks on almost all terrains expect for sand, where Pirelli Scorpion A/T Plus offers better climbing abilities.

BFG KO2

Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse AT vs BF Goodrich KO2

Both all-terrain tires are coming in at the extreme ends on aggressiveness scale. That's why Workhorse A/T does so much better on road, and BFG KO2 off-road. But even on roads, wet traction is seen better on KO2, whereas snow performance, fuel economy, wear and noise is better handled with Wrangler Workhorse. Off-road although KO2 take away the bigger piece of the pie, it still lacks on sand due to it's stiffer sides.

Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac

Yokohama Geolandar X-AT vs Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac

Both hybrid tires are pretty great, but Goodyear DuraTrac lacks in the needed durability, that's why its not so great on rocks. Though its pretty good when it comes to mud, as you get much better evacuation capabilities on this tire. You also get a better design for highways as well in its case, though the tire is very loud. Yokohama X A/T on the other side, provides superior comfort capabilities there combined with snow traction and with it's 3 ply sidewalls, it lets you crawl on rugged tracks with more confidence.
