Tire reviews & comparisons

Ozmen

Hi Folks. I'm Ozmen, and I work as a tire designer. I understand finding a tire isn't easy, as there are so many variables involved. But with me around, tire selection would never bother you again.

Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus

Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus vs Hankook Dynapro AT2

Both all terrain tires are very nice, no doubt, but you cant have a tire better in all sections. That's why Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus is better with fuel economy, wet traction, and some snowy and off road terrains. Hankook Dynapro AT2 on the other hand, offers superior durability and rock climbing, sand performance and impresses on road with it's tread wear resistance, noise reducing tread and overall grip on dry roads. See the rest of all-terrain tires.

Toyo Open Country AT3

Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus vs Toyo Open Country AT3

Both all-terrain tires are great, and by the looks of it, the Toyo AT3 looks more aggressive, yet, the Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus does slightly better in all off road sections surprisingly. But at the same time, it wears faster as well. Toyo Open Country lasts a long time and offers very decent traction on roads especially when things are not so wet. Well, with the exception of snow, where you can appreciate it's performance.

General Grabber A/TX

Nitto Recon Grappler vs General Grabber ATX

Nitto Recon Grappler is slightly more aggressive all-terrain tire, that's why it offers superior rock and mud traction, though it's weight lacks it behind on sandy dunes. On pavements, the tire is great with 2 things, dry grip, and tread noise. General Grabber ATX on the other side is great for wear life, and snow traction, it's wet grip is superior in comparison but it's not so great overall compared to other A/T Tires.

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T vs Cooper Rugged Trek

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T and Cooper Rugged Trek are both pretty aggressive all terrain tires and they cause a lot of confusion, as some consider them hybrid, some say they lie in rugged terrain category, all of these terms are actually correct. These tires basically offer better off road traction compared to all-terrain tires, and at the same time, provide superior comfort if you compare them with mud-terrain tires. Thus, they fit right in the middle of the spectrum between all-terrain and mud-terrain tires. However, the Mickey Thompson A/T stands out due to its balanced performance both on and off-road, offering minimal compromise.

BF Goodrich KO2

Firestone Destination AT2 vs BFG KO2

The BF Goodrich KO2 and the Firestone Destination AT2 are although all-terrain tires, they both are at the extreme ends in terms of aggressiveness. That's why KO2 does great in all sections off road, whereas Destination is better for pavements. Though its amazing to see how little BFG KO2 compromises on pavement as well, where it's comfort is manageable, I don't know how its so light in weight with 3 ply sidewalls (which offers a great steering response), and its a good option in terms of wear as well. Though it's wet traction is not impressive at all, I tell you that, yet it's also 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake Rated like the Firestone Destination AT2.

Toyo Open Country AT3

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T vs Toyo AT3

So both tires are great, but Mickey Baja Boss A/T is definitely very impressive, as it's rugged design is much more capable off road, and at the same times, its almost just as good as Toyo AT3 on pavements. Though Toyo AT3 offers better mileage, road noise dampening and fuel economy.

Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo 3

Firestone Destination AT2 vs Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo 3

The Firestone Destination AT2 and Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo 3 are both on-road oriented tires as they are not as aggressive as most all-terrains are on average. Yet still the Dueler AT offers better off road performance, whereas the its better in dry on road grip as well. Firestone Destination At2 on the other side, is simply amazing when it comes to fuel consumption and wet performance. This tire is also 3 peak mountain snowflake rating unlike the Bridgestone Dueler AT.

General Grabber AT3

Yokohama Geolandar G015 vs General Grabber AT3

Both Yokohama Geolandar G015 and the General Grabber AT3 are very on-road aligned tires which do great on smooth pavements but lack slightly on rugged tracks (that's why they have up to H in speed ratings). Both have 3 peak mountain snowflake ratings as well, but Geolandar AT does better with it. In fact it does great on all sorts of wet surfaces, providing better lateral and horizontal aid. But what I love the most about this tire, is how comfortable it is on highways. Grabber AT3 is on the other side is one of the best dry road performing tire that you can have.

Cooper Discoverer AT3

Cooper Discoverer AT3 vs Firestone Destination AT2

Let me give you guys a quick summary. Firestone Destination is better in wet traction, fuel economy, and comfort on roads, whereas it's snow traction is only slightly off in comparison. The Cooper Discoverer AT3 on the other side, is superior in terms of dry grip, hydroplaning, snow traction, and overall off road traction.

Toyo Open Country AT3

Firestone Destination AT2 vs Toyo Open Country AT3

The Firestone Destination AT2 is not suitable overall for rugged terrains, as the tire is not available in LT sizes, I'd update if anything changes. But for now, these tires are great if you are only doing light weight off-road driving like going on gravely roads, or minor off road filled with dirt. The tire is also great on snow and can handle up to 1 feet, though both tires are severe winter symbols (3pmsfr). On roads, the tire is a champ, but it shines the most on wet ones, whereas the Toyo AT3 does great overall in dry conditions.

Falken Wildpeak AT3w

Yokohama Geolandar G015 vs Falken Wildpeak AT3w

Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 is one of the best tires to have (in all-terrain tires) when it comes to comfort and on road noise. The tire offers amazing ride quality values. It also offers amazing results on wet streets as well. On the other side, although the Falken Wildpeak AT3w is not able to outperform that tire in those mentioned categories, the tire does pretty great and compromises very little for its superior off road traction. It's also better on snow, despite both having 3pmsf rating.

Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus

Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus vs Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015

Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus is quite old now, yet the tire is still pretty great in many areas, where in comparison it does better on dry roads, fuel economy and almost all off road terrains. On the other side, the Yokohama Geolandar AT remains unbeatable in providing you with excellent on road comfort both in terms of noise and ability to absorb bumps. The tire is also very impressive on snowy terrains and on wet roads, it's steering response and handling abilities is just as great as any passenger tire.
