Tire reviews & comparisons

Ozmen

Hi Folks. I'm Ozmen, and I work as a tire designer. I understand finding a tire isn't easy, as there are so many variables involved. But with me around, tire selection would never bother you again.

Nitto Ridge Grappler

Pro Comp AT Sport vs Nitto Ridge Grappler

Out of both tires, the Pro Comp AT Sport provides better highway performance in terms of noise, comfort, fuel and tread life as well as traction. On the other side, the Nitto Ridge Grappler provides superior off-road grip on rocks, sand and mud filled tracks. So its basically better overall off-road, and I guess you saw this coming, right?

Nitto Ridge Grappler

Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ vs Nitto Ridge Grappler

So overall it comes down to this, the Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ being more aggressive features a superior traction on sandy, rocky and muddy terrains, and although its on-road traction is good enough, it's still lacking here. On the other side, the Nitto Ridge does better on highways, in both wet and dry environments, though it's wet traction is nothing to be proud of. Moreover, the tire features a more comfortable ride, give better fuel efficiency, and takes more time to wear off completely.

Nitto Ridge Grappler

Goodyear Wrangler Ultraterrain AT vs Nitto Ridge Grappler

Goodyear Wrangler UltraTerrain AT being a less aggressive tire off the two, yields a superior traction on both wet and dry roads. Moreover, the tire also does a lot better in terms of other on-road performance metrics, including snow traction, tread wear, fuel efficiency, and overall ride comfort. In comparison, the Nitto Ridge Grappler features superb off-road grip, where it shines the most on gravely and dirt filled roads. And it's sand and mud performance is also worth noting.

BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain T/A

Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek vs BF Goodrich KO2

Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek is a very weird tire, when you compare its inner and outer construction, internally it's built like an on-road tire, and from outside, its aggressive enough to be called a hybrid. So it gives a mixture of traction on and off-road. Off-road, its great with mud and gravel, and sandy, and on-road it offers decent wet grip and bumps absorption capabilities. BF Goodrich KO2 on the other side, provides much more durability, and with it, rocky terrain traction, it's a better tire for dry roads, fuel consumption, and tread wear, and yields a quieter ride.

BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain T/A

Goodyear Wrangler Ultraterrain AT vs BF Goodrich KO2

Out of both tires, the BFG KO2 is a tougher tire bringing improved off-road traction to the table, may it be mud, rocks, sand, you name it. Though it does that by ensuring the highway grip stays in tact (but that only goes for dry roads). The Wrangler UltraTerrain on the other side, renders a better wet gripping design, providing amazing resistance to hydroplaning. The tire is also very fuel efficient, and comfortable as well, but could use a little more tread life.

BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain T/A

Kumho Road Venture AT52 vs BF Goodrich KO2

Kumho Road Venture AT52 overall is better on-road tire, though off-road you do get one area where it beats it's counterpart, and that is sand. With the newer tire, Kumho added some really unique sidewalls which provide that traction. And on roads, you get better dry and wet grip, fuel economy and comfort, though tread life is same on both. BF Goodrich KO2, on the other side, features superior traction on rocks, provides ample mud traction, and on-rods, its dry grip and noise dampening abilities aren't too far off form its competitor.

BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain T/A

Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure vs BF Goodrich KO2

Both wet and dry on-road traction is seen better on Goodyear Adventure, as the tire gets to have more stuffed up lugs placement, with a lot of siping on the tread blocks. Moreover, it also gives better fuel and tread mileage, comfort levels, and a decent winter traction. The BF Goodrich KO2 is although not too far off on dry roads, could really use some grip on wet roads, though it's off-road traction is where it all pays off.

BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain T/A

Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx vs BF Goodrich KO2

In summary, the Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx is a better tire if you are mostly staying off-road, though it's durability is almost the same as the KO2. BF Goodrich KO2 on the other hand, is great with dry and wet roads, where it's wet traction is just marginally better (it needs improvement, given it's less aggressive design). Moreover, it also provides better winter traction, fuel usage, and tread life.

BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain T/A

Goodyear Wrangler AT/S vs BF Goodrich KO2

The Goodyear Wrangler ATS is a on-road all-terrain tire, which means it's going to do great on highways, in both wet and dry roads. The BF Goodrich KO2 on the flip side provides epic durability and powerful sidewall lugs and biters, so it's not wonder this tire would bring superior off-road traction, especailly on rocks. Though on road, the tire is also not too backed off in terms of dry grip, and noise dampening. Moreover, it gives superior tread life in comparison as well.

Nitto Ridge Grappler

Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek vs Nitto Ridge Grappler

Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek has a rugged terrain skin on top, but from inside, it's a weaker tire, yet it still performs better on mud and sand, and with a lighter structure is good with fuel and tread wear. Nitto Ridge Grappler on the other side, does great on rocky terrains, and provides amazing stability of dry roads, though it's wet traction could use some help.

BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain T/A

Pro Comp AT Sport vs BF Goodrich KO2

Out of both tires, the Pro Comp A/T although gives a very on-road oriented design, with it's larger weight (still), it gets to lack in terms of fuel efficiency and tread life. Though it still yeilds improved traction on both wet and dry roads. The BF Goodrich KO2 on the other side, might not be as comfortable on smooth pavements, it's off-road traction is unmatched.

BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain T/A

Kanati Trail Hog A/T vs BF Goodrich KO2

The Kanati Trail Hog being a more aggressive tire does better off-road, where it's self cleaning grooves deals with gravel and mud, and it's thicker lugs provide sand and rocky terrain traction. The BF Goodrich KO2 on the other side, features a better dry performance, on both wet/dry environments, and it's also great in other key areas as well, including fuel and tread usage and comfort levels.
