Tire reviews & comparisons

Ozmen

Hi Folks. I'm Ozmen, and I work as a tire designer. I understand finding a tire isn't easy, as there are so many variables involved. But with me around, tire selection would never bother you again.

Michelin Defender LTX MS

Michelin Defender LTX MS vs AT2

So to sum things up, the Michelin Defender LTX MS being an all-season tire yields better results on pavements, and highways. You get to see better traction values on both wet and dry environments, and tire show superior fuel economy and tread life. Moreover, it also does a lot better when it comes to providing a comfortable ride. Michelin LTX AT2 on the other side, does better on all off-road terrains, it's voided structure allows for better mud escaping, and it's notches everywhere bring about superior grip on rocky terrains.

Michelin Defender LTX AT2

Michelin LTX AT2 vs Firestone Destination AT2

Michelin LTX AT2 gives you a better dry grip, and steering response, tread life, and similar noise dampening capabilities. Off-road, the tire does better on rocks and mud. On the other side, the Firestone Destination AT2 provides you with better wet traction, comfort performance, and winter traction, and off-road it outperforms its competitor on sandy terrains.

Hankook Dynapro AT2

Michelin LTX AT2 vs Hankook Dynapro AT2

Both tires are great all rounder options, if you are looking for daily driving options. Though still out of them, the Michelin LTX AT2 comes out better off-road, as we just saw above. The tire render superior on-road comfort. And gives you with better tread life (if you compare the LT sizes especially). Moreover, it's wet traction is although nothing to be proud off, it's still better, comparatively. The Hankook Dynapro AT2 on the other side, is quieter on roads, provides superior fuel economy, winter traction, and gives much better traction on dry roads.

Hankook Dynapro ATM

Hankook Dynapro ATM vs Michelin LTX AT2

So in the end it all comes down to this. The Michelin LTX AT2 comes on top when it comes to dry traction on highways, fuel economy and tread life(of course relatively speaking here). And off-road the tire shines on rocks and mud, though its sand traction is on par with its competitor. Hankook Dynapro ATM on the other side yields superior winter traction, yields better comfort and shows less overall slippage on wet roads.

Bridgestone dueler A/T Revo 3

BF Goodrich Trail Terrain vs Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo 3

Let me conclude all of the things I've discussed, though it's not recommended to leave any of the above, if you are not in a hurry. The BF Goodrich is a better tire to have off-road. It yields superior traction on sand, rocks, and muddy terrains. Moreover, the tire is also very gripping when it comes to snowy terrains, though overall I'd rate both tires equal here. Other than this, fuel usage is better on BFG, along with comfort, both in terms of noise, and bumps absorption. On the flip side, the Dueler A/T Revo 3 features superior dry and wet grip on pavements, and has a better tread life in comparison, though both tires have the same 60k miles warranty.

General Grabber ATX

Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx vs General Grabber ATX

The Grabber ATX comes out on top, when it comes to on-road grip, fuel, tread (life), and comfort departments. On the other side, the Cooper ST Maxx off-road performance really makes all-terrain tires worth it. But the tire really need some aggressive sidewall lugs.

MICHELIN Defender LTX M/S

BF Goodrich Trail Terrain vs Michelin Defender LTX MS

Although its not recommended to miss anything above, let me try to summarize things below for the folks who are in a hurry. Overall, the Michelin Defender is a better pick when it comes to all types of on-road performance metrics. It has superior traction in both wet and dry environments, along with superb steering response, provides comfortable and fuel efficient ride, and has a longer tread life. On the other side, the BFG Trail Terrain, does better off-road, though on dry roads, it's traction is only a tiny bit lacking, and you'd not feel much of a difference there. Moreover, it does better in terms of on-road noise, as it offers you with a quieter ride even being a more aggressive tire.

BF Goodrich Advantage T/A

BF Goodrich Trail Terrain vs Advantage

BF Goodrich Trail Terrain is a more aggressive and durable tire out of the two, so its not able to do so well on smooth pavements, comparatively. Though still let me say this that on dry roads, you won't feel any difference between the two (meaning, its only on the paper). And of course, the tire does great off-road in all types of terrains, except for handling on gravely roads. BF Goodrich Advantage T/A Sport on the other side, is abetter on-road tire, in terms of all, including traction, comfort, fuel usage and tread life.

General Grabber ATX

Pro Comp AT Sport vs General Grabber ATX

The Pro Comp AT is a really nice budget pick, and in comparison here, it comes out better when it comes to dry traction, fuel efficiency and overall on-road comfort. On the other side, the Grabber ATX features a better off-road performance (except for rocks), superior tread life, and more gripping wet traction (though its nothing to be proud off, when compared to other A/T options).

Cooper Discoverer AT3

Michelin LTX AT2 vs Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT

So overall, it all comes down to this. The Cooper Discoverer AT3 is better in wet, comfort, and off-road conditions. Whereas the Michelin LTX AT2 comes better in terms of dry grip and fuel economy. Both tires have similar tread life and winter traction.

Cooper Discoverer AT3

Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx vs AT3 XLT

Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx is a much better tire off-road, considering all, though it's sand traction can still be improved. As the tire is missing with sidewall lugs, which is odd, given its aggressive structure. Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT on the other side, is better on roads overall. It offers superior wet and dry grip, fuel economy and tread life.

General Grabber ATX

General Grabber APT vs ATX

With a more aggressive tread design, you get a superior traction off-road on Grabber ATX. That's out there. But what's still surprising to see, is that tire also does relatively better on snow, and wet roads, as well as tread wear department. On the other side the General Grabber APT features superior dry grip performance, fuel efficiency, and comfort performance (in terms of noise generation).
